Press Release
AMSTERDAM, July 10, 2009 – Euronics International, the leading European buying group representing 11,300 independent retailers specializing in consumer electronics and domestic appliances, held their annual event this year from June 17th to 19th in Madrid. The company announced at the event that it had once again outperformed the market in terms of growth in 2008. Welcoming more than 180 delegates from its 25 member companies and 7 licensees in 29 European countries and key industry business partners, Euronics International Managing Director Klaus Lahrmann announced that group turnover in Europe had risen to EUR 14.4 billion. This growth confirms Euronics’ position as Europe’s second largest consumer electronics retailer.
Klaus Lahrmann, Euronics International’s Managing Director, said that the group’s continuing success was due in large part to its emphasis on innovation, quality, efficiency and time to market. The past year had also seen the development of new international agreements with suppliers and the further differentiation of Euronics stores by highlighting the unique value proposition represented by the brand. These had contributed to one of Euronics’ largest year-on-year growth rates.
Caused by the continuing pressure on margins and the economic crisis, Euronics anticipates a slight decline for the year 2009.
Presenting the 2009 Supplier of the Year Awards, Mr. Winkelmann said these annual awards were especially significant and unique in the industry, as a poll of Euronics members is the key factor in choosing which suppliers will be awarded. The individual stores decide on their favourite manufacturer based on criteria including innovation, product performance, timeliness of supply, marketing and after sales service. In view of the increasing importance of the international nature of the business, international criteria have been taken into account as well, in assessments made by the headquarters team. Criteria, such as European Core Range support, bonus growth and general responsiveness, ensure that clear performance indicators are taken into consideration.
The 2009 Euronics Supplier of the Year Award in the consumer electronics category was presented to Samsung Electronics and was collected by the President of Samsung Electronics Europe, Mr. Sang Heung Shin. Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte (B/S/H) was presented the award in the household appliances category and it was collected by the Senior Vice President Sales, Mr. Thomas Baader.
